Furusato Nozei (Hometown Tax) is a government administered donation program to support your preferred municipality by making a tax-deductible donation. You can receive a gift of your choice from the municipality in return as a token of gratitude, and most importantly, your donation contributes to regional revitalization in Japan.

How will Your Donation be Used?

In Furusato Nozei, you can choose the municipality you want to support and designate how you want your donation to be used. Information regarding the use of donations is available on municipalities' websites, and this article highlights some examples.

Conservation of Nature and Landscapes

Akkeshi-cho, Hokkaido

Akkeshi-cho engages in environmental conservation activities through collaborative efforts of the town, residents, and businesses, utilizing donations for activities like planting approximately 2,500 trees annually to preserve the rich natural environment.

Disaster Prevention, Crime Prevention, and Safety

Yuasa-cho, Wakayama Prefecture

Yuasa-cho promotes initiatives for residents to prepare for natural disasters such as the Nankai Trough Earthquake, ensuring a healthy and prosperous life.

Promotion of Local Industries

Taki-cho, Mie Prefecture

Taki-cho, home to the nation's first restaurant only run by high school students, support their activities. Additionally, the town supports new farming initiatives to pass on the local specialty "Iseimo" to the next generation.

Support for Child Rearing and Education

Nisshin-shi, Aichi Prefecture

Nisshin-shi uses donations to create an environment where children can receive appropriate education and medical care, addressing the increasing number of children in the region. Gift of Thanks include "Thoughtful Gifts" that can be sent to volunteer-run cafeterias providing free or inexpensive meals for children.
