Why is Morning Yoga Good for You?

This article is contributed by MYSORE ROPPONGI.

There are many exercises to do in the morning. Getting up early and moving your body before going to work or after you have finished your chores is a good start to the day. And by making this routine a part of your life, you will certainly increase your awareness of your health and wellness.

Benefits of Yoga in the Morning

This article is written in accordance with the Ashtanga Yoga Mysore and Led classes, which are practiced early in the morning.  The benefits are physical health and mental health! It boils down to this.

If you do yoga in the morning, the preparation for it begins the night before. Finish dinner a little early and go to bed early to prepare for tomorrow. Then in the morning, I take a shower without breakfast and immediately go to yoga shala (meaning school). Have the habit of doing the same yoga practice every morning on an empty stomach.

Your movement will change depending on what you ate or drank the day before and the quality of your sleep. It is like being your own doctor who measures your physical condition every morning.

What do you eat to stay in good shape and good mood, the quantity, the quality? The answer to all of these questions lies within your yoga. That is what we do in Ashtanga Yoga five to six times a week. Traditionally, there is no practice on Saturday's, new moon, full moon days, so you can enjoy Friday nights and before Moon Days to the fullest, eating whatever you want. The joy is exceptional!

About Having a Common Hobby of Yoga

How do you build your daily relationships? Family, colleagues at work. Of course, these are happy relationships, but don't you think your life would be richer if you had a "hobby companion" who is not related to any of these?

Building New Relationships

This is another great feature of yoga in the morning. Ashtanga Yoga originated in Mysore, South India.
And Ashtanga Yoga as a system has spread all over the world and is very popular.

Almost any large city in the world has studios where you can practice Ashtanga Yoga. Even if you are new to a place, if you have the usual practice and the common language of "Ashtanga Yoga," you will feel a kind of family bond with the people there, even if you don't speak the same language and you have never met them before. Also, many people come to Ashtanga Yoga studios as drop-ins during their travels. There is a warm and welcoming environment, even for travelers.
If there is a place to practice near home or work, like a home base, the people who go there become friends. It's like being classmates in high school.

And in Ashtanga Yoga, we don't eat breakfast before practice. Then after practice, you are at the peak of hunger! After Ashtanga Yoga practice, we often see coffee and breakfast time unfold at a café near the studio. The chats with friends there transcend borders, gender, and age. I think it is wonderful to have more and more friends like that!

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional form of yoga that originated in the city of Mysore in South India.
There are "power yoga" and "vinyasa yoga" classes all over the world, and most of them are often based on Ashtanga Yoga.

Ashtanga yoga is like a river, the source of the river's flow. In Ashtanga Yoga, there are two ways to practice: Mysore and Led Class. Mysore is a self-paced, independent practice. You learn the poses, and when you are comfortable with them, the instructor will teach you the next pose.

Led Class is a class where all participants practice the same poses by the instructor's count, held every weekend (depending on the studio's policy). In Led Class, there is a sense of togetherness as we all do the same thing together, reconfirming what we practiced in Mysore.  And the biggest goal is to build a body and mind that can withstand long hours of meditation.

In yoga, it is said that if you change your body first, you will change your mind.  We encourage you to incorporate yoga practice into your daily life for a better life.
